Adapted from Fannie Farmer. Converted to weights, substituted maple syrup for honey and divided by where it gets added.
- 1 cup water
- 6 oz peanut oil
- 9 oz maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 14 oz oat groats
- 7 oz wheat berries
- 2 oz flax seeds
- 2 oz sesame seeds
- 4 oz shredded coconut
- 6 oz raisins
- 4 oz roasted unsalted peanuts
- 4 oz roasted and salted sunflower seeds (pumpkin work well, too)
- (salt)
Preheat oven to 350. Roll the oats, wheat and flax. Combine in a very large oven safe saucepan with the sesame seeds and coconut. In a small pot boil the water, syrup and oil, turn off heat and add the vanilla. Stir well then mix into the dry ingredients. Put the pot in the oven and toast. Mix well every 20 minutes for about 2 hours (until thoroughly toasted.) Let cool. Mix in the remaining ingredients, salt to taste and store in an airtight jar.
