New xmpp chat server at ratwerks running Openfire
Getting Started
- Install a client:
http://pidgin.im/ -- Linux / Windows
http://www.adiumx.com/ -- Mac
- Start Pidgin (or Adium)
- Add an Account
Protocol: XMPP or Jabber
Screen name: <nickname> (this will be nickname@ratwerks.com for Adium)
Server: ratwerks.com (part of Screen Name in Adium)
Resource: Home or Work or whatever
Connect port: 5222 (should be the default)
Connect server: xmpp.ratwerks.com (this is the actual server name)
Click [Register] if you have not registered this user with this server
- Add some Rooms (for Pidgin, no such luck in Adium, but you can join a Group Chat)
Open the Tools menu
Select Room List
Select Account: nickname@ratwerks.com/Home (XMPP)
Click [Get List]
Leave conference.ratwerks.com and click [Find Rooms]
Right click on sortie and select Add
Click [Add]
Click [Close]
