How To Make Coffee
- Empty the contents of the coffee pot. If you're doing this first thing in the morning, this is an easy step.
- Remove the top black plasticy bits from the coffee maker. They just come off, there is no clip or latch or anything.
- Empty the old coffee grounds, if any. They go into the compost bin.
- Put a fresh coffee filter into the filter holder. The filters are located in the cabinet above the maker. They are classified as "#4 type filters".
- Get a pack of coffee from the cabinet above the maker. One single packet is exactly the right amount (a "single packet" in this case is a vacuum-packed Dunkin' Donuts thing of coffee. If there aren't any of those around use 56g or 2oz of coffee from a can or something. I think Jim likes Peets, so get that if there isn't any). Cut the packet open and dump the contents into the filter.
- Next to the coffee maker is a one-litre graduated cylinder. Fill it up to 1L, and pour it into the water reservoir. 1 litre is exactly the right amount.
- Put the now-clean coffee pot under the maker spout. Make sure the pot's top is off.
- Replace all the black plasticy top bits of the coffee maker.
- Switch on the coffee maker; the on switch is on the left hand side of the maker.
- Clean up after yourself.
- Do a crossword.
If the coffee doesn't start immediately, you may need to push the coffee pot all the way against the coffee maker.
(I'm just kidding about the Peets.)
