Describe VanORama here. San Francisco Van-O-Rama 2002
BenT
# DATE: September 14, 2002 # TIME: 09:00am to dusk # PLACE: Pine Lake Day Camp in Stern Grove San Francisco
DIRECTIONS:
Please go to Mapquest or something similar and ask for directions to 195 Crestlake Drive, SF. This house is immediately across the street from the gates which you have to enter.
The simple version for those familiar with the area: Go westbound on Sloat Blvd (towards Ocean Beach). Turn right on Vale. You will dead-end into the park entrance.
Please pmail me for specific directions and NOT the whole group if you need specific directions.
Please accept my apologies for sending updates in this format. It would be too cumbersome for me to email you individually. If you want me to delete you from this update, please send me an email with the subject line "VOR remove". If you are on this list, it's because you have inquired or expressed an intent to attend. I have removed the names of those who have canceled due to scheduling conflicts. Most were created by the late arrival of the SA parts from the group purchase. There were originally more than 100 vans coming.
If you got two copies of this email, it is because a few of you have given me multiple email addresses. I am sending this notice to every address you emailed me from.
OK here's a few rules, not mine but the City's:
- There will be NO AMPLIFIED SOUND during this event. Mike Miller's loud mouth is not considered amplified sound.
Vehicles restricted to paved surfaces only. You can be held liable for damage that you caused to the landscaping, etc., John Wessels, please keep SyncroMog on a short leash.
- Forty (40) spaces are reserved. The rest is open to the public. Arrive early unless you only plan on dropping in and out. We can always park twice as many cars if we park in tandem.
- We need monitors for first-aid purposes and for public safety. Now is the time to volunteer your special skills.
- We need a clean-up crew after the event. Please recycle. I will bring trash bags to haul away whatever we bring in. Volunteers needed again.
- There is not supposed to be any kind of solicitation for commercial purposes on Park Property. If you must conduct a parts sale or engage someone's services for work on your vehicle, please keep a low profile. If you are selling parts, please do not lay your parks out like in a swap meet.
That's pretty much it. I paid for the reservations out of my own funds and will provide the signage & garbage clean-up. So if anyone wants to make a donation towards this event, I will be hardpressed not to accept. Any unused portion will be applied to next year's event.
Next year promises to be an even bigger and better VOR. I've learned my lessons these past couple of years. I just can't wait until the last second to put this together. It's informal but still needs organization. Something I am not famous for. Anyway, I would like to secure a spot for next year where we can have a swap meet and vendor stalls for fun and profit. South San Francisco has offered to host such an event but the reservation cost alone is in the hundreds. I will underwrite this cost only if there is sufficient interest from vendors to rent stalls and cover those expenses. I do not want to go to an admissions style event. Overland has graciously offered their premises as a possible location for next year. However, many of our attendees are SF pedestrians looking for their first van. Overland's Gilroy location will exclude most of those folks. Bruce Tassi has also offered his premises. Unfortunately, that place is way to small to accommodate anything more than a couple of dozen vans. We may consider a "technical tour" angle next time to fit these places in.
So there you have it. I hope you can make it. We are still getting more stragglers joining this group. No doubt we will lose more attendees. I still expect a fun day a the park.
